I met with a business owner earlier this week who operates in a saturated market where skill-sets and service delivery vary greatly. His experience is vast, he operates at the top-end of the market, and has a nice brand that just needs to be expanded and grown within his base market. So what is Instant Articles? It is a new way for publishers to create fast, interactive articles on Facebook. It uses the same technology used to load pictures and videos through the Facebook App. Great news it this means the technology is fast, 10 times faster than standard mobile web.
What can it do? Not only will you be able to quickly load the content, but you can make it interactive. Instantly zoom into high-resolution photos and tilt to explore in detail. Watch autoplay video come alive as you scroll through the article. There are interactive maps and ways to overlay voice with embedded auto captions.
What kind of content can you load? You can publish any kind of content from a short topic to longer articles such as blogs, case studies and other thought leadership. Instant Articles will allow you to use existing tools such as standard HTML and RSS feeds.
What additional features are available? Think of your own magazine on Facebook. You will be able to sell ads in your articles and keep the revenue while taking advantage of the Facebook audience to maximize your revenue. Earn traffic credit through attribution providers and leverage your own analytics tools. Customize your articles and News Feed previews to match your brand identity.
When can you get started? On April 12th, Facebook will begin to open the new Instant Articles up to all publishers big and small! Right now only a few elite publishers like the Washington Times, National Geographic, BuzzFeed, Slate, Cosmopolitan ...etc, are able to post articles.
